Myth-Conceptions about Lymph Massage
Let's do some myth-busting about some common questions, perceptions, and beliefs about lymphatic massage.
I know you have questions.
And I’ve got answers!
In this post, we’ll cover some of the stuff I’ve heard, been asked, or seen floating around on these here interwebs. Such as…
- Does Lymphatic Massage really work? Does it even do anything?
- How do I even know if it’s working? Is it a scam?
- Is it worth the money even if it isn’t a scam?
- Do I need to get LF professionally done?
- It’s just a massage, any therapist can do it!
And many more…
That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
So before we dive in, let’s settle on what we call it.
I’ll refer to this collection of lymphatic techniques as Lymphatic Facilitation, or just LF. You can learn more about lymphatic massage terms here.
Lymph Massage, Lymphatic Massage, Lymph or Lymphatic Drainage, Lymph Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy… they’re all different terms for (mostly) the same thing – a manual therapy (hands on) performed with the specific intention of enhancing lymphatic flow.
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) are not the same (they are higher level) as the techniques just mentioned. See here to find out the difference.
Let's Get to the Myths...
Myth 2 – Lymphatic Massage Doesn’t Speed Healing (or does it?)
Myth 3 – Lymphatic Massage Removes Toxins (or does it?)
Myth 4 – You Should Never Do Lymph Work With Cancer (never?)
Myth 5 – Lymph Massage Can Only Be Done by a Professional Therapist (or can it?)
Myth 6 – You Need to See a Certified MLD or CDT Therapist (or do you)?
